In April 2011, Medica Zenica implemented the project “Models of support for victims and witnesses of war crimes by strengthening capacity and collaboration of NGOs and institutions”, funded by UN Women and Medica Mondiale from Cologne, Germany. As part of the project, Medica Zenica cooperated with the Cantonal Court Novi Travnikto begin establishing networks to help support the victims of war and torture from the area Cedntral
Since then, Medica has held two working meetings with representatives of institutions, agencies, and organizations involved in the protection of victims and witnesses of war crimes in the territory of Central Bosnia Canton. All participants expressed their approval and backing for formation of the newly founded support network in Central Bosnia Canton.
Between February 1st-3rd, 2012, Medica Zenica held a three-day training for representatives of institutions, agencies and organizations involved in the protection and support of victims and witnesses of war crimes from the territory of Central Bosnia Canton. The workshops included a comprehensive introduction to the topics at hand, for example identifying challenges from the perspective of professionals as well as the victims and witnesses, and devising appropriate responses to problems through the establishment of regional support networks related to war crimes and sexual violence in Central Bosnia Canton.
