WHAT IS “MEDICA” ZENICA?
"Medica" Zenica is a specialized women's organization that has been operating for almost three decades in Bosnia and Herzegovina and it seeks to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable categories in society. These are women and children survivors of war rape and sexual violence, peacetime rape and other forms of domestic and community violence, as well as survivors of human trafficking. "Medica" Zenica in its many years of work has developed an approach that is comprehensive, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary according to the individual needs and participation of survivors, nurturing feminist principles and international standards.
Our mission is to contribute to the reduction and eradication of violence and discrimination against women and children through direct work, prevention programs and advocacy activities, and to ensure their equality in the family and society.
"Medica" Zenica provides adequate accommodation to women, girls and children victims of trauma and violence during the process of their recovery. Staying in a safe house, among other things, includes appropriate professional help, through individual and group therapeutic work, counseling, family therapy, occupational therapy, medical care, legal aid, and economic empowerment through attending existing six-month occupational trainings. The total number of persons accommodated in the safe house "Medica" Zenica in the period from April 1993 to the end of December 2020 is 2,318.
