Advocacy work

Within advocacy work one of the goals of Medica Zenica is to influence and propose amendments to legislation to ensure the improvement of the status of survivors of war trauma and violence in peacetime in accordance with international standards in this field. In this regard Medica is a member of a number of working bodies and advocacy networks in BiH that participate in the development of relevant policies and laws that govern these issues. In addition Medica puts a lot of effort into developing good public relations through informational and promotional presentation of the entire work of Medica in the community and beyond, through different visits from BiH and abroad, through organizing various events, and through contacts with the media and cooperation with institutions and NGOs in the country and abroad. Medica Zenica cooperation with relevant institutions in the community is reflected in the advocacy work, but also through the signing of protocols on mutual cooperation and institutionalizing the use of existing resources Medica Zenica and competent institutions in BiH, in accordance with the needs of beneficiaries.

Medica’s advocacy work includes, among other, the following activities:

Participation in working groups with representatives of insitutions and NGOs

Writing appeals to amend and change legislation

Policy advocacy

Organizing discussions, conferences and campaigns

Ongoing communication with media and public

Public certificate awarding ceremony for women and girls from rural and urban areas

Campaigns (16 days of activism, volunteer day, children’s week, elections etc.)

Correspondence, meetings and ongoing communication with government insitutions at all levels

Receiving visits from BiH and abroad

Publishing informational, presentational and educational material, as well as research on trauma, violence, communication, non-violent conflict resolution, inter-faith and multi-religious dialogue, peace and reconciliation, human rights, burn-out, public relations (handbooks, brochures, calendars, postcards, posters, leaflets, planners, pens, t-shirts, badges etc.)

For 18 years Medica has been advocating for:

Rights of women, war rape survivors, survivors of domestic violence and other violence forms, and the rights of victims of trafficking

Human rights and gender equality

Better position of the safe house (and other safe houses in BiH) and counseling center of Medica Zenica (since 2007)

Networking activities aimed at supporting the creation of an institutional network of ssocial care services.

Media coverage

In the reporting period (01.01.-31.12.2017.), „Medica“Zenica had a total of 102 media appearances in printed and electronic media from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad (7 foreign media and 95 domestic medica). Also, in the period January-December 2017, web site was visited 40,248 times with total review of 309,752  times. Visitors of web site were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, USA, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, North Korea, Croatia, Austria, Great Britain, Brazil, Turkey, Switzerland, Serbia, China,Romania etc.

In the period January-December 2017, “Medica” Zenica had a total of 334 persons (representatives of        institutions, domestic and international organizations) visiting.

In the period January-December 2017, web site www.medicazenica.org was visited 40,248 times with total review of 309,752  times. Visitors of web site were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, USA, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, North Korea, Croatia, Austria, Great Britain, Brazil, Turkey, Switzerland, Serbia, China,Romania etc.

In June 2015, “Medica” Zenica created Facebook page called “Medica” Zenica. Until the end of 2017, Facebook page had a total of 2122 fans. A total of 79 posts was poasted and those posts were liked and shared 11 788  times. In March 2016, “Medica” Zenica created another Facebook page “Medica” Zenica- Osnaženi čudotvorni kutak, and until 31st of December 2017, it had a total of 486 fans.

In June 2015, “Medica” Zenica created Youtube chanel called “Medica” Zenica and it has a total of 30 videos published. Videos were rewieved 3579  times and in period from January to December 2017, a total of 4 videos were published wich were rewieved 229 times.

Membership in international and local networks

Medica“ Zenica is a member of different local and international networks. International networks are EPIL (European Project for Interreligious Learning), IKETH – European network of theologists, WAVE (Women Against Violence Europe), Regional network for children who live and work in the street and Local networks are Older brother, older sister national network, Network for peacemaking, NGO Council, NEVAC, Informal network of Drop in centers, Network Sporazum plus, Network of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
